File Names Confuse my ipod (and me too)

Postby crimson2 » February 17th, 2009 2:58 pm

Hi J-pod team - am I right in addressing this question here?

When I download lessons onto my ipod (from the Lessons Area or the Learning Center) often lessons are listed as "unknown artist" or have an "unknown album" or shows a name that leaves me guessing which lesson I just listened to.

Sometimes it means losing lessons that I didn't even know I had on my ipod.

I am sure I am not the only one this happens to. It is one frustrating point of an otherwise very user friendly site

So great job on the lessons, great job on the on a useful site that is easy to navigate. But one place where there is still real room for improvement is consistency in naming files . Something simple that would save me (and probably many others) a bit of frustration.

thanks

The naming conventions have always been terrible. If you have an album entitled 'Upper Intermediate Lessons S2', you don't need 'Upper Intermediate Lesson S2 #X:' at the start of every track title, which actually prevents you from seeing the track title itself, even on an iPod touch with a massive screen, and will make you cry with frustration on low resolution players (there was a thread about this a long time ago).

There's also no consistency with titles, track numbers, genres, just about everything. I went to the lengths of renaming and organising them myself. It's a nightmare, but at least you only have to do it once. I'm a big fan of the lessons as well, but it was really annoying to suffer such frustration with something as straightforward as naming conventions :?
