Phrases to use with my in-laws.

Postby cloudcar » February 15th, 2009 3:58 am

Hello,

Next month I will be visiting my husband's family in Japan. This will be the third time I've been there. Should my greetings be different since we have met before? Obviously it wouldn't make sense to say はじめまして. I thought おひさしぶりです would be too casual. Is it? Thanks for your help!

As long as you have です after おひさしぶり, you should be fine! You could also ask おげんきでしたか? (how have you been?), which would be great for starting a conversation

ごぶさたしておりました。 is more polite.
