The first 16 are up on a list. I'll be adding more to the list as I have time. The word I don't know below is on the list, and I"ll be deleting it and re-adding it as I find out the definition. This may happen more as I find more I can't define.

Psy, I may have to ask you for a few definitions, since I can only find the words in Japanese dictionaries... And I don't understand the definition.

The first one of those is:

五十嵐 いがらし

Yahoo says: 姓氏の一。

Thanks!

Edit: Oh, the list is at: http://www.iknow.co.jp/lists/50142

It seems a little wonky at times but it gets the job done. Covers lots of obscure points and I've yet to search a form that it doesn't contain. It would have been better had it been written entirely by Japanese natives, though.

igarashi is a name, as are usui 臼井 and kondou 近藤. Sorry about the confusion-- I should have indicated as such!

Ahhh... Okay, thanks! I'm going to replace those with vocab as well, then.

Thanks for the lists! There are a lot of kanji that I didn't even realize weren't on the list of Joyo Kanji (but still knew anyway).

This probably warrants a new topic, but I'm putting it here since it fits in with the native Japanese and kanji theme. Apparently the prime minister regularly misreads kanji, which has led to a sales boom in Japan for a book about kanji that are easily misread. The first link is to the article and the second is to the book.

I ended up a few of these that were in any words on Jisho.org, so they aren't in the list.

Psy-san,

Thank you so much for doing this!

I wanted to ask you if it would be okay to create a blog post with your content: the new 常用漢字 lists you put together for everyone. Sometimes not everyone gets to see the forum, and using to blog to share it seems like a good idea.

Of course, we'll give full credit to you and link to the post.

Thank you again.

Anybody added these to an anki deck yet by chance?

I find it interesting they have two kanji for lapis lazuli. I had never even heard of this until reading it just now. Is it a popular gemstone in Japan? Or am I strange to not have known what it is?
