So there are two expressions that get said in shows that i hear all the time and am hoping the community can disect them a bit for me.

The first is わるい, or sometimes わるいな. Until recently I couldn't even find the proper form because i always hear it as わり. Is わるい prounced 'wari'? I get really lost with the silent 'u' sometimes but until now thought it was only in the case of す.

The second is what sounds like people saying 'sumen' as if its a short form of 'sumimasen'. I couldn't find info on this one easily although i didn't look that hard because i wanted to make a post.

The u sound isn't silent in 悪い, don't know what to tell you. Keep on listenin' and you'll get used to it.

common short forms for sumimasen are suimasen and suman. Technically you could give any negative form of 済む, I suppose, but in practice...

"わりぃ" and "すまん" are used for an extremely casual situation.

When you want to thank your very close frined or your men (subordinates) in casual situation, you can say "わりぃ" or "すまん".

I think you sometimes can hear them in J-Drama and anime.

@QS: so i was watching something just now where buddy was saying わるい. I replayed it a couple of times and i guess i can year a little bit of u now. Hopefully it'll be like when you get wrong song lyrics in your head and when someone corrects you can never really hear the song the same way again.

@hatch_jp: thx. it's probably bad habit to watch such casual expressions used in non-casual situations in shows eh? don't worry, i won't be springing them out on strangers.
