Basic feed episodes missing show description?

Postby dcattarin » January 8th, 2009 6:19 pm

For the past week, all the episodes I've received have a show description only containing "##PostExcerpt##". It seems like some automated function is not replacing this text with the correct information.

Are other people having the same problem?

Thanks,
Dave

I've been having this same problem for several months, on both Japanesepod and Koreanclass podcasts. Can we have some help on this please?

Edit: I'm getting this problem on the Premium feed for JP, and Basic feed for KC...

I know what you mean. The lack of response in a Tech Support thread is greatly disappointing for an otherwise professional group. My episodes are still missing descriptions, and now I don't have a video for Video Vocab Lesson #2. It's on the website, but is not on any feed that I've tried.

I wish there was a way to escalate this since there is something obviously not right with the feed.

I'll give it another bump. Also, if you want to double-check to get that video, you can refresh the feed by holding shift and clicking the expand arrow on the podcast. Regarding the descriptions, I even tried deleting a lesson, then redownloading it, but the description was still missing. I've emailed support for KoreanClass and they weren't aware of the problem. I'm not sure how it could be local (our PCs), but apparently nobody's complaining.

Apologies for the late response. I am not part of the tech support team so I cannot offer help myself but I would suggest emailing if the issue is still unresolved. Hopefully someone from the tech team will be able to address the problem shortly.

I believe I've gotten to the root of the problem, with Max's help over at KoreanClass101. At some point, they moved all of the dialog and show description text from the "Description" field in iTunes, over to the "Lyrics" section. While new iPods may be able to display this (I don't know since I don't have one), my 5th gen iPod can't. At this point, most of the Korean lessons that were showing the "##PostExcerpt##" problem are now fixed, and I was told that JapanesePod staff will be fixing their problem episodes as well. Hopefully they will finish soon.

When they finish fixing the episodes, the only way for you to check is to:
1. Go to an episode with the problem.
2. Delete it.
3. Collapse the podcast in iTunes, then hold Shift and Expand it, refreshing the podcast and bringing back any deleted episodes.
4. Preview the episode, see if it has the Description. If it does, re-download it and all the other episodes with the problem.

If you have any problems, contact the support people, and/or post the issue here for help. I hope this helps!
