In these replies, many と suddenly appeared. I don't understand と except as "and", though the dictionary also says "way".

eg
「ほう」と読みます = (X) is read as "ほう" (?)
Why not a は or a が instead of a と？
「ほう」と読みます = "ほう" is the way that (X) is read?

hello ^.^ i'm back again with my broken computer! BUT i stuffed another week's worth of japanese into my head within the last two hours, and i thought i would just practice against myself. i'll admit... i had my notebook with me ^.~' but i did pretty good without it... i pretty much used it to remember what the lessons were about, then just checked my sentences against it. It's REALLY long so i'm proud of myself... but i know there are a couple of mistakes in there... so please, as soon as you see them, reply and let me know! The more the merrier ^.^ i've only made it thru survival 7 so this is, i think, a pretty good start. i know i sound like i'm talking to myself, but... ^.^ here goes nothing! XD

「と」は　「Quotation marker」です。
「いう」や「おもう」や「よむ」で　使います。

あした　くる　と　いいました。　He said that he will come tomorrow.
「あした　きます」と　いいました。　He said "I will come tomorrow".

うるさい　で　も　つかえます。　It can also be used with sounds.
(I'm not sure that urusai is the right word here)
