How do you say "I had a dream"?

I was wondering if it was ゆめおみました　(yume o mimashita)

I am a beginner so there is not a lot I know...but I did research and couldn't really find the answer on my own..

You're right, it's ゆめをみた 'I saw a dream' rather than 'I had a dream'. I found it easy to understand the first time I heard it, but like with a lot of Japanese expressions, it's not something you could guess yourself.

The anime Scryed uses that phrase a lot... The little girl has dreams about the main character and self-narrates. 'I had a dream. It was a sad, lonely and pathetic dream.' etc etc. (That's not a quote, but it usually goes something like that.) I'm pretty sure they said it like your translation, but it's been a while since I've watched the series.

Oh, and I think you meant 'を' not 'お'.

thanks I might check that out....haha yeah I realized that I wrote O instead of WO....I should know better since I have already learned that.

It's also used at the start of several of Natsume Soseki's 'Ten Nights of Dreams' stories - 「こんな夢を見た」 - which you can find in Breaking into Japanese Literature(edited by Giles Murray).
