renting a fast car

Do anyone know if it is possible to rent a race type of car in Japan? How much are they usually?

A... race car? Are you mad? Nevermind the issues of driver's licenses, heavy traffic (not so bad on major roads outside of the big cities, but still...), and the incredible expense of using the expressways...

... sure, it might be possible but you'd need the right connections and an awfully deep pocketbook.

How much does it cost to drive the expressways in Tokyo? Our friends picked us up from Narita and drove us to our hotel. I didn't want to ask at the time, but they have the electronic toll pay on their car and I could have sworn I saw a toll of 1680 Yen for one segment. Maybe I was seeing something else....I was pretty tired! :-)

Courtesy Wikipedia: 24.60 per kilometer, with Tokyo-Nagoya at ¥7,100. Kind of expensive by American standards, but having been on the expressways myself, I can attest to their being extremely well maintained.

In Tokyo it is a flat 700 for the shuto for one junction or all the way across Tokyo. I used to live in the west of tokyo and it used to cost around 2000 to get to Narita if memory serves me right.

But also with the ETC (Electronic Toll Card presumably) there are discounts depending on the time of day - I think between midnight and 6am it is something like half price.
