How to say: Other

Postby sodapple » August 8th, 2008 3:36 pm

8) Is there a easy way to say other or there are many?
If I want to say for example:

The other day I saw a dog
That is another good idea
I want to do other things
The other is more beautiful
The other house is small
This is like many other cars

I think 他(ほか) is the word you're after.

Apart from "other day", which you'd probably use 先日(せんじつ) for, I think 他(ほか) can be used for all those sentences, usually as ほかの。。。

The other house is small:

Other words for "the other day" are この間(あいだ) or この前(まえ). I'm not a native speaker so there might be mistakes, but here are my impressions of those sentences you wanted translated:

The other day I saw a dog:

That is another good idea

I want to do other things

The other is more beautiful

The other house is small

This is like many other cars

Hope it helps get you on the right track!
