You know how there are sometime these lines in a Japanese word that looks like this: __ How do you know where to put that? Take a name for example. If you were to write Suki, you'd write Su-ki. Right?

ー is used for long vowel in Katakana.

ケーキ (cake) : kehki
テーマ(theme) : tehma
コーヒー(coffee): kohhih
メール(mail) : mehru

Someone tried explain it to me. She didn't explain it that way. She made it sound more complicated, but this makes it easier for me to remember. Thank-you! :)
