Takoyaki

Postby danieru_s » November 3rd, 2007 2:19 am

I couldn't help myself... I noticed at my favorite Japanese take-out restaurant, that they serve takoyaki... so I ordered it. I can only imagine that "the real thing" in Japan is much better than what I got in Toronto, Canada... but is wasn't bad!

Try it if you get the chance.

Takoyaki is as fun to make as it is to eat, and it's really not that hard. You do need the pan thingy for it though.

While you won't feel as cool, you can do it with toothpicks. Just be careful not to burn yourself!

Talking of burning

Postby JonB » November 5th, 2007 11:55 pm

Eat with caution - this food is dangerous! First time I tried it I pretty much destroyed my mouth due to burns!!!

Just because the outside is cool be warned the core (word chosen deliberately) could be still very, very hot!

oh yea... that's one think gotta be careful... i've burned my mouth many times! these days, if i remember, i'll bite a little off so that there's a hole for the heat to escape.

or i'll use those sharp toothpicks which they provide to poke many many holes all around it.

Takoyaki is pretty much my idea of heaven. The one in Japan is definitely the best (especially in Kansai), but I go to eat it here all the time and talk story with the lady who works there.

Takoyaki. Yum.

I'm curious. how much do those takoyaki-making pans cost? And actually what's it called in Japanese?

Since I'll be Osaka soon, I might as well get one.

Awesome! Thanks. I don't know why I never bothered to learn the name of the machine until now.

Found one of many online. There's lots , but this one I found looks quite serious:

Takoyaki

Takoyaki! suki!! My sensei in university brought them with her some time ago. She also treated to chocolate for those who didn't like the taste of tako! And yes there were some baka who acted as if they were eating a sheep's eye. ^_^ 全然分かりませんよ。

Takoyaki must be one of the best foods out there. I love it. The first time I heard it my teacher told us about it in its english given name 'octopus balls' and I was just  shocked. I didnt want to try them, no way. I was sure I never would like them. But when I actualy did...wow, one of my favorite japanese foods out there. definatley something any foreigner should try.
