Listening to japanesepod101 podcasts

Postby dj gman » March 10th, 2008 12:15 am

Hi everyone, I'm going through the newbie lessons and I was just wondering which do you find is the best listening method? Listening to the same few podcasts over and over again for a week or just going from beginning to end then back to beginning? I find myself not being able to catch up on all the vocab within each lesson and i forget a few of them over time. any helpful advice for learning vocab in the lessons and remembering them?

Do you read the PDF's? Just listening to audio is pretty ineffective and time-consuming, especially newbie ones which are mostly in English. I usually listen to the lesson, read the PDF, listen to the dialogue, and go back to the PDF if there was something I couldn't understand. It's probably best to wait until you can fully understand a lesson before you move on. If you're worried about forgetting vocab, try using this program http://ichi2.net/anki/

Well you see I can't get a basic account as of right now, until I get a bank account that I can use for paypal, so the pdf's are outta the question for me. I can't install the anki .deb because of some unsatisfiable python thing in ubuntu so that kinda leaves me in the dust. I have been playing this lrnj slime forest adventure game that has taught me all the kana and about 35 kanji so far, but it gives you only a short time to learn the hiragana spelling for the kanji :X

I personally think that it is best to have a bunch of things that all supplement each other in your language studying. Which means you need the podcast AND the PDF, also go to your local bookstore or library and find something else to go with it.
