Japanese doctors and hospitals in 医龍-Team Medical Dragon

Postby watermen » January 10th, 2008 3:49 am

Recently I am watching this Japanese drama, 医龍-Team Medical Dragon, I wonder if Japanese doctors and hospital in real life are like that. The doctors in the shows have very bad patient-doctor relationship. The doctors are so cold toward patients. Are Japanese doctors like that? Most importantly the doctors in the show are all arrogant, unethical...

is yes - Japanese doctors do have very poor patient interaction skills. It's not just me that says that but my Japanese wife!

When she was pregnant one doctor had two patients on the go at one time - he had a workstation between the two cubicles and never once looked us in the eye as he was too busy typing on his computer.

After about the third appointment we changed hospitals. The next one was better - no computers! But sometimes my wife had to wait 2 hours for her appointment - remember it is private here so all by appointment. On average she had to wait 45 minutes and it seemed the closer she got to term the longer they made her wait - what was that about not stressing them?

Arrogant and unethical I think probably not! It is show after all and I am sure all American doctors are not like House or ER... The couple that I know socially are very nice, genuine people

it was showing on AZN until recently. Now they are showing
ガリレオ which I am watching now and absolutley love. Reminds me of Jonathan Creek from the BBC.

ガリレオ ROCKS !!!! I love this show...

That's where my signature comes from, btw ...

I've ordered the books the show is based upon (探偵ガリレオ and 予知夢) and also the 3rd one in the series ( no episode based upon it, as it is a full novel and not short stories) on amazon.co.jp, and I'm planning to start reading 探偵ガリレオ tonight...

本当に盛り上がってます !!!

wow you are way beyond me. My listening is much better than my reading. I still lean on the dictionary when reading comics and childrens books. You will be my inspiration as I would love to read those novels

Well , that admiration goes both ways, as my listening is way below my reading !!! I'm utterly lost without subtitles :-(

Anyways, I need a dictionary too... I never leave home without my faithful電子辞書!!!
