Using & Misusing the Learning Center

There are loads of features in the Learning Center, and we try to add some when we can.

One of my personal favorites is the Line By Line Audio and the Voice Recorder. So, I like to listen to the original line and try to record my voice to improve my pitch accent. Comparing the two is really helpful.



But recently, I've been trying to improve my speed when writing Japanese.
So I've been sitting down with a pen and paper and click one line of the Line By Line Audio and try transcribe it. i think i'll start timing my transcription times soon. i'm actually picking up a lot of new kanji this way too (for example, i didn't know how to write 褌 until i started doing this). so i think this process is helping my (1) listening skills, (2) writing skills, and (3) adding more kanji to my repertoire.



that got me thinking...
do you guys "misuse" the learning center for other purposes?

This is sort of off topic, but I do the same thing but with Book-Off kids books. I write them into the computer in order to change the kana into the proper kanji, and then rewrite the stories by hand.
I find it so much easier to learn kanji when it is incorporated into a greated narrative. learning purely through flashcards and kanji renshuu books hasn't really done much for me.

The stories are easy and the words repeat themselves a lot, so i find it very useful. I also have a long way to go before i need to worry about learning the kanji for sumo apparel.

I like to "misuse" the line by line audio to copy and paste individual lines from the dialog into my SRS program (Anki) for memorisation. Sometimes I paste in the English translation, too, into the answers field (but not always), and sometimes if there is a particularly hard word in there, I will paste the definition from Jdic (normally, just reading the definition once in Rikaichan is enough, and I don't feel I need make a permanent record).

Obviously, I don't do this for every line. Probably on average there is 1-2 lines per lesson that I find interesting or unusual enough to be worth committing to memory.

i just use the the Adobe transcripts, i write the new vocabulary on index cards to memorize them then write the dialog on an index card , reading from the English translation. then I check my wonk. once I get to all right i keep the card and read it regularly. I also memorize the Japanese names.

I donut know if this is the best way, since after I finish with a lesson, i have already memorized the dialog, so when I read the card later on I get sacked back into the dialog as I hired it on the audio. so I am half reading and half not. Is this good or bad?
