WOW...how to read this word, what it mean?...the last one means mouse.....what about the first one?

That first kanji is very interesting. Even in JDIC, it only has an image file. Does it even have a unicode entry? Is it possible to type?

Since the page is around on J-Wikipedia the character obviously exists in a table somewhere. However, the only way I've managed to type it is by way of the Mandarin input manager using the reading wu2: 鼯. Even so, the character is still exceptionally rare-- around 0.007% usage according to one statistic. I guess if you feel like using it, copy it into the user-dictionary and have fun blowing away your penpals. (颱 is another fun one-- so easy to learn it surprises me no one knows it)

there is a big wind, and on it's tail it's sorta the word for "stage" or something... seems like the meaning is "big wind" or "typhoon"...

so what's the real meaning Psyさん?

You got it. The meaning is "Typhoon," which in Japanese is normally spelled 台風 (たいふう). From this you can see how easy this obscure kanji is to learn. If you were to spell たいふう using 颱 instead, the spelling would become 颱風.

yea it's easy! i was almost reading it right to left when i saw it coz it does seem very logical to read it as たいふう instead of ふうたい... =D

i think it's the older form of the kanji 台 to be used in 台風.

edit:and it makes sense huh.. if you spell it 颱風.. there's lotsa wind in there. and that's what typhoon is about.
