Skype practice? & lang. pack for xp?

Postby KiraNL » May 15th, 2007 8:56 pm

Hi,

I just begon with learning japanese and am really a newbie (know too litle to speak it in normal conversations exept for what is given as example in the lessons) but was thinking maybe that someone who just begon too and speaks english want to practise from the newbie lessons it would go better then because we can correct each other and such.
Just an idea. :)

My skype name is xkiranlx

Feel free to call/add/chat. (oh yeah i live in the netherlands if you want to know which time it is or something.)

And my 2nd question was, how to read kanji on xp..i only see ?? so figured out there must be a lang. pack for it?
Does anyone know where to find it if true?

Btw i like this site really much, it is going to be a great help! :)

Regards
KiraNL

Are you talking about on IE? In which case maybe all you need to do is go to View->Encoding and then try something like Japanese (Auto Select). My one at work seems to be set to unicode (UTF-8) and that works fine.

If you want it on outlook etc you may need to install the language pack. got to control panel and select regional and language options. On the Langauges tab press the details button press add and select your input language.

Hopefully that should do the trick. I live in Japan and have an English O/S and that is all that I have ever done.

Cheers
JonB

untmdsprt です。

I used to chat with Japanese people, but I'm finding they will either speak to you like an idiot or a native. Even when you have your profile in Japanese, they will insist on using romaji. I've asked politely that they use hiragana. My request is ignored, and then they start typing:

ohayou gozaimasu - good morning
konnichi wa - hello
konban wa - good evening

rndavisonです :)

I'm around beginner S1 lesson 80, and I've been doing a lot of 'extra-curricular' self-study.
よろしくね

(i tried registering rdavison as my skype name, but it was taken, so my skype name is actually rndavison)
