Japanese learning English, help

Postby sai361 » November 6th, 2007 5:25 pm

I know this is kind of a backwards place to post this but I have a Japanese friend who wants to improve her English and is asking me for advice on how to study.

Are there any websites or programs for Japanese that teach English? It would be nice if there was something like Japanesepod 101 for learning English.

Arigatou gozaimasu.

It's actually in development right now. I can't give you an exact date to when it'll be ready and open to the public, but I can tell you it will be pretty soon. :)

that got me to thinking...

if japanesepod101 teaches Japanese and uses English as the narrative translation, which narrative language will englishpod101 use?

The dialogs will be in English. Like Jpod, depending on the lesson level there'll be an appropriate amount of English and Japanese used. So higher level lessons = more English/less Japanese.

The site will also have a surprise feature that I'm not telling. :P

It's gonna be englishpod101.com, as the domain pulls up a authorized access login prompt.

Also running whois on the url brings up our confirmation that I am indeed right (am I never not? =P)

This is actually a really interesting development, and I think it might be fun to listen to for an English speaking learner of Japanese.

There is something very satisfying about listening to real Japanese conversations, involving (and aimed at) native Japanese speakers, and (occasionaly) understanding what is going on.

Of course, there will be no "translation", but the English conversation and occasional English keyword thrown in will provide clues.

楽しみにしています

This should be good for the JPod community, as I'm sure many "Epod" listeners will head to JPod to try and find someone to practice with.

And Marky, you should have written "your homework" instead of "you're homework". "You're homework" is short for "You are homework".

Lol...it only took me about 30 secs to pull all that up. I've set up a few websites before with my somewhat basic knowledge (compared to professionals). You can pull it up with a site like whois.net

Will they be linked?

Postby ThisistheHenry » November 20th, 2007 5:53 pm

I was just wondering if there was any chance that the two sites could be linked by payment (i.e. premium subscribers on jPod also get premium content on ePod)?

I'm sure there'll be some kinda of cross-site promotional pricing.
