Formula to figure out the -te and -nai form?

Postby SkyDiver » November 4th, 2007 8:24 am

I think it would be very helpful for many people, if someone can write down the formula for this. It's quite difficult to remember every -te and -nai form without formulas.

thanks!

btw which is a very good book/lexical that features tons of useful nouns and adjectives?

I like "A Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar", and the sequel volume "A Dictionary of Intermediate Japanese Grammar". They're more reference books than textbooks, but they have tons of example sentences and useful phrases, as well as a pretty complete treatment of basic grammar forms.

Tae Kim's Guide to Japanese Grammar is a great online resource for this stuff also. It's not as complete as the above books, but reading through it thoroughly before coming to Japan made a huge difference for me.
