Studied 15 S2 lessons today, not easy at all. I feel frustrated sometime when I don't understand the PDF, sigh...but I am pretty happy today as I am nearer to the latest lesson in S2. Hope that I will be able to start lower intermediate by the end of this month.

yeah, S2 is to reinforce grammar. i think of it at as a practice level for people who have been exposed to most of the basic grammar but rant to keep reviewing and reinforcing it.
there's a lot of slang and casual language and male/female language used in S2 also, so don't get too down if it's difficult sometimes. i think even intermediate learners can get something new from some of the S2 stories.

also, be forewarned; somewhere towards the end of the first Beginner series it gets REALLY difficult. like, super advanced japanese, that's when we stopped that level because it just got too crazy.

also, if you find any mistakes in the PDF's we'd definitely like to know about them!
we're a very small office and there just a few of us here, so sometimes mistakes slip thru the cracks. but definitely want to fix them if they are brought to our attention.

頑張ってください!

やった!!!I finally finished the last lesson in S2, eagerly waiting for the latest lesson tomorrow. Just realized that lesson 45 in S2 has the same grammar point as lesson 75 in S1. I was ambitious and tried lower intermediate lesson 1 but were too tough for me, sigh...will attempt it again a few days later. :D However, intermediate 1 seems to be easier than lower intermediate 1, pretty happy that I can understand intermediate 1 now.

Many people here seem to be concern about my pace, however I feel that I am pretty fine with my current pace. I do make sure I understand the current lesson before moving on.

Goal for this week is to finish the rest of the 170 lessons in Beginner S1. Meanwhile, I may slow down too, getting tired of listening to Peter, Sakura, Natsuko, Yoshi etc voice for more than 10 hours everyday. (Sorry...I need a break. No offence.:D )

This is what I will do when I find it difficult to remember a vocabulary. Today word is 締め切り、which means dateline, I learned it from Intermediate #1.

Studied 10 beginner lessons today, find it pretty easy. It feels good to be able to catch up with the latest Beginner S2 lesson.

Today word is 恥ずかしがり屋。 It means shy person. I learned it from Beginner lesson #81, I found it tough to remember. Hopefully this word will go into my brain forever.

Mistakes spotted today: Beginner Lesson #84, 川本:私の数学教の科書を返してください。Note that the のis misplaced. It should be わたしの数学の教科書を返してください。 By the way, the explanation of the grammar point was totally written in romaji, please do something about it, it is a real pain to read romaji. Thanks.

I have a little challenge for you to test what you've learned so far. A few of us put some self-intro and other simple vids up on youtube. If you have webcam and a few minutes, why don't you give it a try?

Thanks for your advice, but I really don't like to expose myself in Youtube. :D

Not really. I did tried using the same method to study Korean, I used 1 day to get used to all the Hangul and some basic expression, then spend the next 5-6 days studying more lessons, but I lost my impulse for Korean as it is not really so useful in terms of practicality and I stopped studying, I may consider studying again when I finished Japanese. The reason I studied Korean before because I was pretty impressed by the free Korean lesson provided by Sogang, that is by far the most impressive free language learning website I know.

I never studied any other language so seriously. I decided to seriously study Japanese because of its wide application. There are many medical-scientific article written in Japanese, I which I know how to read it, that is why I set my goal to be able to read Yomiuri Shinbun in 3 months time. I wish to be able to read scientific article in 6 months time. I am not looking to speak fluently, as currently I have no plan to live in Japan, but I wish to be able to watch Japanese anime without relying on translation is my other major goal.

I am in Detroit now, spent half a day in the airport and plane. Had dinner with people at night, I am pretty tired now. Managed to study 3 beginner lessons in the plane and the latest S2 lesson during free time in the hotel. Not going to study anymore today.

I'm pretty sure in order to read scientific stuff you need to practise at least 1 year intensive over there. You need to be between JLPT lvl 1 or 2. Any plans to study abroad?

Are you talking about reading online, with the help or Rikai-chan, or reading actual paper copies of newspapers and scientific papers?
