Has anyone able understand Japanese just by studying Jpod101

Jpod101 is nearly 2 years by the end of this year. Has anyone able understand Japanese just by studying Jpod101 since its inception? Is there anyone here that has been following Jpod101 since its first day, mind to share your experience? Thanks.

I've learned a lot from Japanesepod. I'm lucky that I have a Japanese girlfriend though!

We first met when I was a Japanese beginner, and meeting for 'study lessons' was a good excuse to get to know her.

In about 2 years we've had about 2 study lessons! But I've learned enough Japanese to have conversations with all her friends, family etc. Everyone always compliments her on my Japanese (!) and say that she must be a great teacher. She always says that my level of Japanese has nothing to do with her, that I learn everything online.

You can definitely learn a lot from Japanesepod.

Though I've been neglecting the podcasts/my study of japanese for a while..I think the podcasts provide a knowledge of the living language rather than the text-book examples you receive from traditional methods. Listening to just the survival phrases were extremely useful when I visited japan.

I've been able to learn quite a bit from the shows. However, it takes a lot of repetition though. Sometimes it takes listening to the same episode about 10 times before I've committed a new concept to memory. So far it's been great and my main source of learning Japanese.

I've been learning with Jpod since a few months after inception, and can understand elevator conversations, much of the Japanese on "Heroes" and so on. I can mostly understand the Jpod side conversations, but I have to actively listen. It doesn't happen automatically yet. I'm still too scared to talk to people much (when I can find them - I'm in the US), so I sometimes practice to myself or to my cats ^^, or with my friend who is also learning and also too shy to speak it.

I haven't been studying as hard as I could have been, really just listening to the lessons during my commute and looking things up from time to time. I just made a resolution to go back and study all the lessons, learning all the vocab, grammar, and kanji for real. In 1 year I want to be able to read young-adult level books, and to understand my Gatchman dvds.
