Famima!!

Postby wndola » September 14th, 2007 4:59 pm

Famima!! has become my new favorite place here in Los Angeles. They have all my favorites like ハイチュウ and ラムネ. It is a great help for my Kana Scrapbook (I paste the labels into a blank book next to the letter I am trying to memorize.) I have also started having rice balls for lunch, quick cheap and easy.

My question is for those in Japan is Famima!! the same over there? I would love to see pictures of Famima!! in Japan.

I've stopped by the Torrance Famima location a few times, so I have an idea of what you're POV is.

The quick answer is... "no".

Family Mart (the Japanese parent company) stores in Japan are on the same general level as Lawson's, 7-11, etc. And by that I mean both in types and quality of their merchandise, amount of floor space and their layout, services provided, etc.

I hoped that helped.

No. Famima is owned by the same company (Family Mart) but is targeted at a more upscale clientele. More like a Japanese version of Trader Joe's or Gelson's. Not quite a "supermarket" in size, but the goods they carry have a higher precieved quality & accompanying price to match.

For an actual market, I'd advise checking out the numerous: Mitsuwa, Nijiya, and Marukai locations in Calif.

Yes but I can't get there on my lunch break and an onigiri for less than 2 bucks is probably cheaper than bringing a lunch and definitely healthier than Carl's Jr ;-)
