What's a translation for outfit?

Postby Wanwo » August 22nd, 2007 1:12 am

As in a woman's clothes, where you might want to say 'That's a nice outfit'

Can I use ワンピース or does this term only refer to a dress?

If she's wearing say a jacket and skirt could you call it a スーツ or is that term just used for a man's suit?

As far as I know there are tons of different ways to compliment someone's looks, but for clothing I believe 洋服 or 服 can work if you're not referring to anything specific. One way to compliment someone is to say "it suits you." 似合う (にあう).

その洋服はよく似合いますね (その ようふく は よく にあいます ね)

The possibilities are broad, so feel free to experiement.

う sometimes confuses me

I was wondering how to say "get dressed" or a more general "get ready", in the "because I was running late, I had to get ready in a rush" sense.

As for outfit compliments, I know you can use 'ぴったり', but I'm not sure how "cool" it sounds.
