頭を悩ましています!

Postby Jyanome » August 8th, 2007 6:27 am

Hello! :D
I'm having trouble with the following sentence:

ある一定の状態の光の中で、その葉を前にしてもつ視覚的な体験のある種のあり方を、人は緑という’色’を見たと表現しているのである。

From the context I understand what it means, but there are a few parts of it that I can't make sense of and that I'm hoping you can help with.
1. 前にしてもつ
2. What verb is acting on the object 「その葉」?Is it 見た?

Thank you!

Sparked my interest too. Think you can help me with a translation?

ある一定の状態の光の中で
One thing that is shown within this situation

その葉を前にしてもつ視覚的な体験のある種のあり方を
Before (____) the leaf, the way a certain visual experience originates

人は緑という’色’を見たと表現しているのである
"The person is green" is a phrase used when someone is seen as that "color"

lol, im really tired and cant even speak Japanese, let alone tackle this. :) But its all good, just got payed and gonna sleep tonight, try again tomorrow. :) But I thought that missing verb would be miru also.

Wow, this seems very literary. I do not have confidence in my ability to read this but I will give my impression.

When people speak of the color "green", it is of the sensory experience of gazing at a leaf in just such a scene as this.

lol, way better than my guesse. :) Way above my level, but good practice so long as we can understand the meaning in the end.

But Im still not getting it.

Second guesse:
ある一定の状態の光の中で
To speak of one set state within light (spectrum?)

その葉を前にしてもつ視覚的な体験のある種のあり方を
While standing in front of a leaf and thinking of the certain visual experience of such leaf,

人は緑という’色’を見たと表現しているのである
One will say green is the color which they saw.

If you see a mistake please point it out (in a demeaning and bullying way ;) ) :D
