So how do the Japanese type kanji?

Postby WalterWills » July 4th, 2007 7:42 pm

Do they type with hiragana and something converts each word into kanji? Or do they have to look up each kanji whenever they want to type it?

Or perhaps they have the world's biggest keyboards?!?

they do it something along the lines as we type japanese with our keyboard.

if you have japanese IME mode on and type "wa" it becomes the hiragana for that sound.

when you type whole words a kanji pop up and if its not the right kanji you can choose which one that is right from a list.

if you search for japanese keyboard in google. you will find under pictures that japanese keyboards both have roman letters and hiragana on each key.

many Japanese use the same romaji input method. Most of my friends do because it does not take up the whole keyboard.

Nice. I've been wondering this myself for awhile.

Question for typing on Mac

Postby danieru_s » July 8th, 2007 12:20 pm

Sometimes I see text like ああ and the second あ is smaller than the first (just like きって). Is there a way to create the smaller あ without reducing the font size?

ああ vs あぁ

I figured out how to make あぁ. Use xa to input a small あ.

Or "la", which I find easier to type. :)
By the way, I made it to Japan
