I subscribe to a video service that has about 800 Japanese movies on it. Any recommendations for top-quality current movies that are must see? I'm not into anything fantasy-like or weird.

You can try, Crying Out Love, In the Center of the World (Japanese title: Sekai no Chūshin de, Ai wo Sakebu, 世界の中心で、愛をさけぶ) Pretty good movie

Or if you would rather watch comedy i would rec Swing Girls (スウィングガールズ; Suwingu gaaruzu) Kinof feel good comedy
