Dang, bro lost me right there. Apparently I didn't spend all yesterday with my girlfriend and her friends speaking exclusively in japanese, or for the last 2 weeks for that matter.

I think the guy writing the article is speaking more about his Beginning Japanese class. Guys who have learned a few phrases from their girlfriends, or who have girlfriends doing their homework incorrectly (usually because the girlfriends aren't using the simple japanese grammar point that the class is on. not that the language itself is incorrect) who then spend half the class arguing with the teacher. (In my class, people got over that by 2nd year and got on to the actual studying.)

Though I agree with you on the not funny at all.
It's the kind of thing someone would write rather than doing their Japanese homework, because they're frustrated with the language.

Completely opposite to what this article suggests (in jest), the more Japanese girlfriends you have (provided to give an effort to SPEAK JAPANESE) the quicker you will progress.

That statement ignited something in my imagination. Suddenly I had the image of Elfunko with an army of girlfriends, one for 敬語、 one for written japanese, one for spoken Japanese, one for slang, one for kanji....
As stupid as it sounds, it's given me a chuckle the last couple days...

First, Im not gonna get offended, ever, unless someone does something completely heinous to me or a friend. Definately never by anything written on the internet. Though sometimes I will attempt to offend, troll, and get on people's (who are dumb enough to let me) nerves. But Im not really that bored these days so...

My goodness, when I was reading the section on kanji, it just occurred to me that in chinese, combining the words for 'horse' and 'woman' gives you 'mother'. It's not a kanji though, else it'll be even funnier. hahaha

The reason why the combination of "woman" and "horse" gives you "mother" is that the word "woman" gives the compound word "mother" the meaning of "female", and the word "horse" actually representes the pronunciation of the word "mother". Because the word mother is pronouned like "horse" in chinese.

Read that article like 3 years ago just after I moved to Japan and before I started learning Japanese. Thought it was lame them and still think it's lame now. I just don't get the whole "this language is so hard" thing. The only people that seems to say it are the Japanese that subscribe to 日本人論 beliefs, and lame Japanophiles. Although I think it does serve some benefit in that is might scare some people away from attempting to learn, thus giving me less competition when it comes to finding work that involves the Japanese language.

I had seen the "why you shouldn't study Japanese" article a long time ago and thought it was pretty funny. I had never seen the rest of his "writings" (and I use that term loosely) until today. It's not nearly as funny anymore.
