in old japan, everything was done with the right hand. everyone was expected to be right handed. i heard even today, lefties are a rarity. i don't know if it's genetic or just learned behavior. (i don't have a statistic on this, it was just told to me by a few japanese friends).
there is a famous example in japanese history. the shinsengumi commander, 近藤勇 (Kondo Isami) was shot in his right shoulder. while his wound was recovering, the doctor told him not to use his right arm. before each drinking party he would apologize for his bad manners as he would have to drink with his left hand.
you know in ancient rome, left hand use was also frowned upon.
the latin words for right and left are like this:
dexter (right)
sinister (left)
marky
