How to say "meditate"

Postby deuceosic » January 24th, 2008 7:48 pm

I was trying to lookup the word for meditate and could not find one. I found several for "meditation," but no verb for meditate. If someone could tell me (in Kanji AND Kana please) I would appreciate it. I would also like to know the word for Vipassana meditation if anyone is familiar with this.

To give a run-down via kanji, since those were all given the definition "meditate":

瞑想する (dark-thinking) meisou-suru
黙想する (silent-thinking) mokusou-suru
熟考する (intense-thinking) jukkou-suru
思い巡らす (to think around) omoimegurasu
深く考える (to consider deeply) fukaku kangaeru

For the aspect of "zenning out" you want either of the first two. Naturally, annie is right. 8)
