Frankensteiner:
Thanks for this video clip! It's omishiroi! I, too, could only understand a few things, very little, really. But I do believe that the girls are using very informal speech to each other. For us foreigners, we have to learn different kinds of Japanese! Formal, informal and degrees in between! This is muzakahii

Jason! Get around to watching it already. *Tsk tsk* :P

Liz, you're very welcome!
Let's keep practicing and someday we'll comprehend what they're saying.

Wow.

Well I got some of the words like 'genki', 'midori', and the numbers. I also understood the english part pretty well (tongue in cheek). Had no clue about what they were saying otherwise. However, since I have only just begun my learning experience with Japanese I did not have very high expectations either. I will check this out in a few more months and see where I am then.

I got about 30-40%. I understood there was something about Christmas and presents and then about going somewhere and doing something.

It's so much harder to listen to Japanese than to read it. Reading you can slow down and take at your own speed, but with listening, you've pretty much got to be near 100% to get most of the meaning down.

I'm pretty good at reading Japanese but it takes me pretty long. Listening to it, I just get lost. If I miss a word, I naturally stop in my head to recall what it means and then the speaker is miles down the road.

It's very frustrating.

But I DO notice much improvement from when I first started. I would easily say that listening is the most advanced skill to pick up (though followed close by speaking); you really have to know all your stuff.

Anyway, to everyone: don't worry if you got blown away by this. I'm positive we'll all get it one day if we continue to work hard.

I just listened to this again last night and I definately understand a lot more than I did the first time, but theres still quite a lot of vocabulary I don't know yet and I've only really been learning informal japanese so far but hopefully by the end of the year I'll be able to understand the majority of it.

I understood about 1/4th of it. I would understand it much better if it was written.

Didn't understand nearly as much as I'd like, though I was able to follow some of the less slurry stuff. I'd put overall comprehension around 50% for the starting conversation, and 100% for the Japanese spoken after they started talking in English. I don't feel too badly about it though, and neither should any of you guys who had a hard time-- this is highly colloquial schoolgirl-eese. You won't learn it from normal textbooks/courses, and the only real way to understand it is to have a ton (years) of listening practice under your belt. Actually I find it pretty irritating...
