I was reading what someone was saying regarding buying a camera. But I'm stuck on the last sentence. Mostly thrown off by the usage of という here. Not sure what it means.

加えて、別段にカメラという趣味に嵌るタイプじゃないです。
In addition, he's not the kind of person who falls into a camera hobby in particular.

*they were talking about their daughter's boyfriend, sorry!

Is this okay? Or did I completely miss what they were really saying? Heh.
Also, if anyone has some insight or can direct me to gain more info on という I'd be so grateful! I looked it up but didn't seem to be very relevant as they were focusing on other particular uses of it.

I asked a friend. To get a more specific answer, I asked about the difference between カメラという趣味 and カメラの趣味. Because FYI they're largely the same thing.

違い・・・厳密には多少あるよ。
「カメラの趣味」だと
・写真を撮ることが趣味
・カメラを集める（ライカとか有名な機種）ことが趣味
どちらも考えられる。
「カメラという趣味」だと
*という*のは、この場合強調の意味だから
写真を撮ることが趣味ということにフォーカスを当てている場合が多いと思う。

But this logic makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. So, you're on your own!

as far as I know this usage of to iu is to add information to the noun that proceeds it. It is often used to let you know what kind of something. In this case .. what kind of hobby is it? its the hobby of cameras or whatever. I don't really know about the emphasis part. When I see to iu I almost always see it as separating a word from a larger group by giving more information about the thing you are talking about.

yamada san to iu hito. there are many people existing buy you are taking the person yamada from that group and talking about him

kurushisa to iu kimochi. There are many types of feelings out there. But the one your talking about is that of kurushisa.

Anyway this is at least how I see this grammar. If anyone else has any other ideas please post it on the board. Regards.
