Numbers from 200 to 1000. In this lesson, you are going to learn the numbers over 100 to 1000. In the previous lessons, you learned the numbers up to 100. Let’s start by reviewing some of those numbers now. (san-jū , san-jū .) (go-jū , go-jū .) (nana-jū , nana-jū.) (hachi-jū go, hachi-jū go.) (kyū0jū kyū, kyū-jū kyū.) And of course, 100 is ひゃく。 (hyaku.) (hyaku.) . Now let’s learn the multiples of 100 such as 200, 300, 400 and so on. To create multiples of hundreds, you add numbers in front of ひゃく。 (hyaku.) . To say 200, 2 に。 (ni.) 100 ひゃく。 (hyaku.) (ni-hyaku.) What about 300? 3 さん。 (san.) 100 ひゃく。 (hyaku.) Here ひゃく。 (hyaku.) turned into びゃく。 (byaku.) . It’s just an exception that has to be memorized (san-byaku.) Okay let’s keep on going. (yon.) 100 ひゃく。 (hyaku.) (go.) 100 ひゃく。 (hyaku.) (hyaku.) This time ひゃく。 (hyaku.) changed to ぴゃく。 (pyaku.) (hyaku.) (hyaku.) this time ひゃく (hyaku) changed to ぴゃく。 (hyaku.) (kyū-hyaku.) So for the numbers, 3, 6, and 8, we had a sound change. This is a pattern that shows up a lot. So remember these three numbers さん、ろく (san, roku) and はち (hachi) . The rest will usually stay the same. (kyū-hyaku, kyū-hyaku. ha-ppyaku, ha-ppyaku.) (nana-hyaku, nana-hyaku. ro-ppyaku, ro-ppyaku.) (go-hyaku, go-hyaku.) (yon-hyaku, yon-hyaku.) (san-byaku, san-byaku.) (ni-hyaku, ni-hyaku.) So please keep in mind that sound of ひゃく (hyaku) changed for さん、ろく (san, roku) and はち (hachi) . Now let’s take a look at 1000. (sen.) (se, n.) (sen.) The word for 1000 is せん。 (sen.) . It’s not いちせん。 (ichi sen.) You don’t need to say the word 1. So you just say せん。 (sen.) (sen.) . So now you’ve learned the numbers up to 1000. In the next lesson, you are going to learn the numbers up to 10,000. |
