Natsuko: こんにちは、なつこです。
Naomi: なおみです。
Chris: Chris here. Thank you for Doing Business with Us in Japan.
Natsuko: このレッスンは、中上級日本語講座第四シーズン第9課。
Naomi: このレッスンのタイトルは？
Chris: Thank You for Doing Business with Us in Japan
Naomi: 前回の続きですよね。ビジネスで役立つ日本語の第５回目です。
Natsuko: レッスン８では、Webデザイン会社の中田さんと、ILLトラベルの谷口さんがミーティングをして、中田さんは谷口さんに見積り書を渡しました。
Chris: In lesson 8, we heard the web designer, Nakata, meet with Taniguchi from ILL Travel to submit and estimate.
Natsuko: 今回のストーリーは、中田さんが谷口さんからのメールを読むところから始まります。
Chris: Today’s story starts with Nakata reading an email from Taniguchi.
Naomi:どんな内容のメールなのか気になりますね。
Natsuko: そうですね～。
Natsuko: それでは、聞いてみましょう。
DIALOGUE
中田:あ、ILLトラベルの谷口さんからメールが来てる！
「お見積もりの件」かぁ。。。どんな返事だろう。
（メールの内容）

いつもお世話になっております。
先日は、ミーティングにお越しいただきありがとうございました。
御社のご提案内容を、社内で検討させていただきましたので、ご回答申し上げます。
内容については、ほぼ当社の要望に沿っていると思います。
ただ、残念ながら、お見積り額が、私どもの予算を超えております。
システム構築を含むケースでは、料金がかさむことは承知しておりますが、何とか、当社の予算額の400万円以内に収めてくださるよう、見直しをお願いいたします。

中田:予算、400万かぁ。
あ、課長、例のILLトラベルの件で、今ちょっとよろしいですか。
課長:いいわよ。
中田:実は先方の予算が400万円らしいんですよ。
でも、この前ウチが出した見積もり額も、結構ぎりぎりの額だったんです。
ですから、正直、これ以上、下げるのは厳しいんですが・・・。
課長:旅行プラン作成システムの機能をどこまで削れるかどうかが、鍵ね。
システムエンジニアの斉藤さんと相談してみたらどう？
Natsuko: 次は、英語が入ります。
中田:あ、ILLトラベルの谷口さんからメールが来てる！
Chris: Oh. It's an e-mail from ILL Travel's Mr. Taniguchi.
中田:「お見積もりの件」かぁ。。。どんな返事だろう。
Chris: "Regarding the Quotation"...I wonder what kind of reply it is.

いつもお世話になっております。
Chris: Thank you always for your kind attention.
先日は、ミーティングにお越しいただきありがとうございました。
Chris: Thank you for coming to the meeting the other day.
御社のご提案内容を、社内で検討させていただきましたので、ご回答申し上げます。
Chris: We've looked at your company's proposal at our company and would like to inform you of our answer.
内容については、ほぼ当社の要望に沿っていると思います。
Chris: We believe that your contents are along the lines of our demands.
ただ、残念ながら、お見積り額が、私どもの予算を超えております。
Chris: But, unfortunately, the quotation exceeds our budget.
システム構築を含むケースでは、料金がかさむことは承知しておりますが、何とか、当社の予算額の400万円以内に収めてくださるよう、見直しをお願いいたします。
Chris: We understand that in cases involving system creation, the price increases, but somehow, we would like to ask you to keep it under our company's budget of four million yen by reconsidering.

中田:予算、400万かぁ。
Chris: A budget of four million yen…hmm.
中田:あ、課長、例のILLトラベルの件で、今ちょっとよろしいですか。
Chris: Oh, Chief, regarding the ILL matter, do you have a minute now?
課長:いいわよ。
Chris: Sure.
中田:実は先方の予算が400万円らしいんですよ。
Chris: As a matter of fact, they say their budget is four million yen.
中田:でも、この前ウチが出した見積もり額も、結構ぎりぎりの額だったんです。
Chris: But the quotation we presented last time is a very low price.
中田: ですから、正直、これ以上、下げるのは厳しいんですが・・・。
Chris: Therefore, frankly, to make it lower than this would be very difficult...
課長:旅行プラン作成システムの機能をどこまで削れるかどうかが、鍵ね。
Chris: How far we can cut down on the functions of the create-your-own-trip system is the key.
課長:システムエンジニアの斉藤さんと相談してみたらどう？
Chris: Why don't you discuss this with Mr. Saito, the systems engineer?
POST CONVERSATION BANTER
Naomi: 今回は、メールの文章でしたね。クリスさんは日本語でメールをすることはあると思うんですが、日本語でメールを書くときに、気をつけていることとかってあります？
Chris: そうですね。一番気になるのは、やはりあの、最初のご挨拶の方のところというか、天気とかに関しての言葉とか、いつも何を書けばいいかわからなくて。。。
Natsuko: 英語では、普通ああいう挨拶、入れないですもんね。
Chris: 入れないですね、えぇ。
Natsuko: あの、もう用件から入るんですよね。
Chris: そうですね。
Natsuko: 日本語の場合は「暖かくなってきましたが、いかがお過ごしですか」みたいなのがちょっと入ったりしますよね。
Naomi: そうですね。
Natsuko: もちろん、電話のやり取りもビジネスの場面でまだ行われているんですけれども、メールの方が、記録に残るという意味で、好まれますよね。
Naomi: そうですね。電話だと「言った」とか「いや、聞いてない」とかでトラブルになることもありますもんね。その点では、メールの方がいいですよね。でも、メールって、送り先を間違えて送っちゃったりすると、すごく怖くないですか。
Chris: そうですね。しかも、返事が来るまでには、ちゃんと読めたかどうかがわからないので、そこもちょっと不安になりますよね。
Natsuko: そうなんですよね。私も間違えて、同僚に送るはずのメールをクライアントに送っちゃったりとかしたことがあって、真っ青になって、すぐに「すいません！今のは消してください！」みたいなメールを送ったんですけども。。。あれは、やばかったなぁ。
Naomi/Chris: 怖いですねぇ。。。
Natsuko: だからこそ、そのメールのマナーなんかも、いろいろあるんですよね。タイトルの書き方とか、CCとか、BCCの使い方とか。。
Naomi: あ、そうですね。「新入社員研修」とかで、メールの書き方を教える企業も多いみたいですね。
Natsuko: なるほどー。私が新入社員だった頃、まだあんまりメールを使ってなかったから、そういう研修はしませんでした。
Naomi:私もそうでした。
Natsuko: 今回のダイアログにあるメール文も参考に、皆さんも日本語でメールを書くことに是非、チャレンジしてみてください。
VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE
Naomi: それでは、今回のダイアログに出てきた表現を確認していきましょう。まずは、
Natsuko: 「～の件」
Chris: “regarding …”
Naomi: 「件」っていうのは、英語では何ですかね。
Chris: この場合は “matter” とか “subject” という意味ですね。
Naomi: メールの ”subject” は日本語だと「件」(matter) の「名前」(name) ということで「件名」というふうに言われますよね。その件名の欄に、ダイアログでは「お見積もりの件」と書いた、いうことなんですね。
Chris: So in the dialogue, お見積もりの件 "Regarding the Quotation" was the subject of the mail Nakata-san received.
Natsuko: このように、メールの件名 (subject) にはよく「～の件」と書きますね。
例えば、「明日のミーティングの件」なら
Chris: “Regarding the meeting tomorrow”
Natsuko: 「ご質問の件」
Chris: “Regarding your question”
Naomi: 「メールの件名」以外にも、ダイアログにはこんな文章がありました。
Natsuko: 「課長、例のILLトラベルの件で、今ちょっとよろしいですか。」
Chris: "Chief, regarding the ILL matter, do you have a minute?"
Naomi: メールだけでなく、こういうふうに会話でも使われるんですよね。「～について」(regarding) と同じような意味です。では、例文をなつこさんお願いします
Natsuko: 「明日の会議の件でお話があります。」
Chris: “I have something to discuss regarding tomorrow's meeting.”
Naomi: では、次の表現に入りましょう。次の表現は？
Natsuko: 「先方」
Naomi: 今回のダイアログの「先方」は「相手」(the other party) と言う意味で使われています。
Chris: 先方 in this dialogue's case means "the other party."
Naomi: ダイアログの文章をお願いします。
Natsuko: 「先方の予算が400万円らしいんですよ。」
Chris: "They say their budget is 4 million yen.”
Naomi: この場合「先方」は相手の会社、つまりILL トラベルのことなんですね。じゃあ、先方の反対語、「自分の会社」とか「自分の側」を意味する言葉は、
Natsuko: 「当方」
Chris: 当方 means "our side."
Naomi: 「先方」と「当方」、あわせて覚えてください。
Naomi: では、次の表現です。
Natsuko: 「残念ながら」
Chris: "unfortunately"
Naomi: これは、前置きの表現 (prelude) ですが、悪いニュースを伝えるときなんかに、よく使いますよね。
Chris: So 残念ながら is often used when you have to say something that is not desirable to the person you are talking to. 英語で言うと、"I regret to inform you, but..."っていう感じですね。
Naomi: では、例文をお願いします。
Natsuko: 「残念ながら、ご希望の品物は売り切れです。」
Chris: “I'm sorry to tell you, but the thing you wanted is sold out.”
Naomi: では、文法に入りましょう。
Naomi: 今回は、ビジネスのメールでよく使われる表現を確認していきましょう。
まず、メールの書き出し、始まりの部分です。
Natsuko: 「いつもお世話になっております。」
Chris: Literally, "You've been always taking care of us" or "Thank you always for your business."
Naomi: う～ん、訳がきびしいですね。。。
Natsuko: そうですね。
Naomi: 英語には訳しづらいものだと思うんですが。。。。
セットフレーズとして、ビジネスのメールに使うと覚えておいたほうがいいかもしれないですね。
Natsuko: そうそう、必ず使いますね。
Naomi: 特にメールの最初の部分に書きます。
Natsuko: はい。で、面白いのは、実際にはお世話になってなくても使うんですよね。
Naomi: あ、確かに。いいポイントですね。
Natsuko: もう、決まりとして覚えておいた方がいいと思います。普段ビジネスの取引きがない場合でも、マナーとして使うんですよね。
Chris: So this is a set phrase that is used as part of a business custom even if you are not directly doing business with the person you are writing to.
Natsuko: Upper Intermediate を聞いている皆さんは、もうご存じだと思いますけど、「世話になる」は
Chris: "to be taken into care by someone”
Natsuko: ですよね。でも、普通「世話になる」と言うと「誰かに恩 (obligation) がある」とか、あと「いつも感謝しております」と、それと同じような意味なんですね。
Naomi: そうですね。英語だと、何ですかね。 "I owe you a lot." とかですかね？
Chris: うーん。でも、あんまり言わないので、普通の英語に訳すと「いつもお世話になっています」は "We appreciate your business".
Natsuko: なるほどね。覚えておこうかな。
では次に、依頼表現を勉強しましょう。
Naomi: 「依頼」というのは、「何かを相手に頼むこと」ですね。
Natsuko: そうですね。ですから、次は「丁寧に人に頼む方法」を勉強しましょう。
Naomi: では、ダイアログの文章をお願いします。
Natsuko: 「当社の予算額の400万円以内に収めてくださるよう、見直しをお願いいたします。」
Chris: "Somehow, we would like to ask you to keep it under our company's budget of 4 million yen by reconsidering."
Naomi: 「～よう、お願いいたします」というフレーズで、丁寧に頼むことができるんです。
皆さん、「～ようにしてください」は知っていますよね。
Chris: ～ようにする means that "make sure that...." 例文をお願いできますか。
Natsuko: はい。「家族と相談するようにしてください。」
Chris: "Please make sure that you consult your family."
Naomi: これを「～ように、お願いいたします。」と言えば、もっと丁寧になります。
Natsuko: 「～ように」ではなく、「に」をとって「～よう」と言うときが多いですね。
Naomi: そうですね。こんなふうになります。
「ご家族と相談するよう、お願いいたします。」
Chiris: “I ask that you please consult your family.”
Natsuko: この「するよう」を「くださいますよう」とすると、さらに丁寧なんです。
Naomi: いろんな形、出てきましたね。
Naomi:そうですね。「ご家族とご相談くださいますよう、お願いいたします。」
Chris: "I humbly request that you please consult your family."
Naomi: とても丁寧な表現なので、「～くださるよう」とか「～くださいますよう」とか、「よう」の前も丁寧な表現が入ってくるんですね。では、ちょっと練習しましょう。
「連絡ください！」(Please contact us) をもっと丁寧に言いたければ、
Natsuko: 「ご連絡くださいますよう、お願いいたします。」
Naomi: 「遅刻しないでください」 (Please don't be late) をもっと丁寧に言いたければ、
Natsuko: 「遅刻なさいませんよう、お願いいたします。」
