INTRODUCTION
Natsuko: こんにちは、なつこです。
Naomi: なおみです。
Chris: Chris here. When I Offered My Japanese Proposal, They Applauded.
Naomi: 今回も、ビジネスで役立つ日本語を勉強していきましょう。
Natsuko: 前回は、中田さんと課長の会話でしたね。
中田さんの会社はILLトラベルに、「ウェブページのリニューアルを400万円でやってほしい」という注文を受けました。ところが、400万ではその仕事は引き受けられない・・・と中田さんは自分の会社のエンジニアに言われてしまった。そこで「どうしたらいいか」いう相談を課長にしていたんですよね。
Chris: In the last lesson, we heard Nakata speaking with his section chief. Nakata's company had received an order from ILL travel to renew their site for under 4 million yen, a request that its engineer said it was impossible. Thus Nakata went to his section chief to ask what he should do.
Natsuko: 今回のストーリーは、中田さんが、谷口さんへメールをするところから始まります。
Chris: Today's story begins with Nakata sending an email to Taniguchi.
Natsuko: それでは、聞いてみましょう。
DIALOGUE
中田:ふー、これでよし！
メールで送ってから、電話で補足説明をしておけば、ばっちりだな。
（メールを打つ音）
ILLトラベル　谷口様、
いつもお世話になっております。
御社のご予算を元に、再度社内で検討いたしました。
添付の通り、修正版の提案書および見積書を作成いたしましたので、お送りいたします。
この修正案では、旅行プラン作成システムの対象地域を一つに限定にいたしました。
弊社システムエンジニアと相談したところ、まずは、地域限定で開発してから、地域を広げていく方が効率的であるとの見解でした。最初の開発で、問題点を洗い出すことができるためです。また、地域限定であれば、ご希望のご予算内に収めることが可能です。
また、ハワイを選ばせて頂いた理由は、御社の事業内容から、ハワイは御社が特に力を入れている地域であるとお見受けしたためです。もちろん、他の地域に変更することも可能です。
つきましては、添付の修正案をご検討くださいますようお願いいたします。

Natsuko: 次は、英語が入ります。
中田:ふー、これでよし！
Chris: Phew! This looks good!
中田:メールで送ってから、電話で補足説明をしておけば、ばっちりだな。
Chris: After I send the e-mail, if I give them a complementary call, it'll be perfect.

Chris: Dear ILL's Mr. Taniguchi, thank you always for your kind attention.
御社のご予算を元に、再度社内で検討いたしました。
Chris: Keeping your company's budget in mind, we've examined things again at our company.
添付の通り、修正版の提案書および見積書を作成いたしましたので、お送りいたします。
Chris: As you can see in the attachments, I am sending you the revised edition of the proposal document as well as the quotation we have created.
この修正案では、旅行プラン作成システムの対象地域を一つに限定にいたしました。
Chris: In this revised proposal, we have limited the target region of the create-your-own-trip system to one area.
弊社システムエンジニアと相談したところ、まずは、地域限定で開発してから、地域を広げていく方が効率的であるとの見解でした。
Chris: We spoke to the systems engineer at our company, and starting off with a limited area and then expanding to different regions would be efficient in our opinion.
最初の開発で、問題点を洗い出すことができるためです。
Chris: This is so that with the first development, we can uncover any problems.
また、地域限定であれば、ご希望のご予算内に収めることが可能です。
Chris: Also, if we go with a limited area, it is possible to set it within your requested budget.
また、ハワイを選ばせて頂いた理由は、御社の事業内容から、ハワイは御社が特に力を入れている地域であるとお見受けしたためです。
Chris: Additionally, the reason we chose Hawaii was because, according to your company's business operations, we saw that your company is concentrating especially on Hawaii.
もちろん、他の地域に変更することも可能です。
Chris: Of course, it is also possible to change it to a different region.
つきましては、添付の修正案をご検討くださいますようお願いいたします。
Chris: Therefore, please examine the attached revised proposal.

POST CONVERSATION BANTER
Naomi: 今回のダイアログは、主にメールの文章でしたね。
Natsuko: 前々回のレッスン、レッスン９でもメールの文を紹介しましたので、「いつもお世話になっております」という挨拶文は、もう皆さんわかりますよね。
Chris: 「いつもお世話になっています」は、”Thank you always for your kind attention” ですね。
Naomi: ところで、中田さんは「メールを送ってから、電話で補足説明をしておけば、ばっちりだな」って言っていましたよね。
Natsuko: これは、メールで全部説明すると長くなってしまうから、大切なことをまずメールで送って、足りない部分を「補足」として電話で説明する、ということですよね。
Chris: そうですね。電話をもらう人も、先にメールをもらって読んでおけば、話もわかりやすいですよね。質問も考えておけるし。
Naomi: そうですね。
Natsuko: あ、その話でちょっと思い出したんですけど、まだ今ほどメールが普及してない頃、メールを送ってから、「あの、メールを今送りました」って電話する人がいましたよね。
Naomi: あ、わざわざね。送るたびにね。「メールを送ったんですけど。」そういう笑い話ありましたね。
Chris: それって、メールを送る意味がないですよね。
Natsuko: そうなんですよね。でも、メールが届いているか、ちゃんと見てもらったか、不安だっていう気持ちはわかりますよね。
Naomi: うんうん、確かに。あと今は、たまに、ジャンクメールに入ってしまうこともあったりするじゃないですか。
Chris: あー、ありますね。実はなおみさんからのメールがジャンクメールのホルダーに入っていて、連絡がつかなかったことがありましたね。
Naomi: うん、そうなんですよね。何か、話が通じないから、おかしいなぁ～と思って、「クリスさん、メール読みました？」って聞いたら、「え？何の話ですか。」みたいな。
Natsuko: え、私実はこれ、今日やったばっかりなんですよ。
Naomi: あ、そうなんですか。
Natsuko: 今日クライアントから、「例の修正の件どうなりました？昨日が確か期限でしたよね。」ってメールが入ってて、私何のことかさっぱりわからなくって。「何ですか」って返信したら、「先月送ったんですけど…。」ってメールが来て、「あぁぁ、ごめんなさい！ちゃんと受信してませんでした！」っていう・・・。
Naomi: 迷惑メールに入っちゃってたんですか。
Natsuko: 多分そうだと思うんですけど、もうだいぶ前のなので削除されてしまって。もう、急いでもう一回送ってもらったりしました。
Chris: それは、大変ですね。
Natsuko: やっぱり、便利なんですけど、信用しすぎるのも危ないなという気がしますね～。
Naomi: そうですね。
Chris: それは言えますよね。
VOCAB AND PHRASE USAGE
Naomi: それでは、ダイアログに出てきた表現を確認していきましょう。まずは、
Natsuko: 「添付の通り」
Chris: "as attached"
Naomi: 二つに分けて考えましょうね。まず、
Natuko: 「添付」
Chris: “attachment”
Naomi: 次の「通り」の意味は、"way" とか "street" ですね。
「～の通り」は「～のように」という意味に近いと思います。
Chris: ～のとおり means "as" or "like."
Naomi: 短くなっていますが、「添付の通り」というのは「添付した書類に書いてある通り」という意味です。
Chris: So てんぷのとおり means "As you can see in the attachments"or "as attached."
Natsuko: メールで添付書類を送るときに使われる、セットフレーズですよね。
Chris: 添付の通り is often used as a set phrase when you want to send an attachment to business emails.
Natsuko: 例えば、請求書 (invoice) を添付した場合は
Naomi: 「添付の通り、請求書をお送りいたします。」
Chris: “I am sending the invoice as you can see in the attachments.”
Naomi: 次の表現は何でしょうか。
Natsuko: 「洗い出す (あらいだす) 」
Chris: “to bring to light”
Naomi: 二つの単語からできていますよね。まず
Natsuko: 「洗う」
Chris: “to wash”
Naomi: でも「洗う」は、「詳しく調べる」という意味にもなるんです。
Chris: "to examine carefully"
Naomi:それから、次の単語は
Natsuko: 「出す」
Chris: “to take out”
Naomi: ということで、「洗い出す」という言葉には二つ意味があるんですね。一つ目の意味は
「何かを洗ってきれいにする」。
二つ目の意味は「よく調べて、見つけだす」ですね。ダイアログでは、二つ目の意味で使われていました。
Chris: This is a compound verb composed of 洗う, meaning "to wash", and 出す, meaning "to take out." In this case, "to wash" means "to examine carefully." So, this compound verb means "to examine carefully and discover something that was missed."
Naomi: ダイアログの文章をお願いします。
Natsuko: 「最初の開発で、問題点を洗い出すことができるためです。」
Chris: "This is so that with the first development, we can wash out any problems."
Natsuko: 「問題点を洗い出す」というのが、よく使われる表現ですね。でも、こんな文章も聞きますよね。「警察は容疑者の行動を洗い出した」なんて、ニュースで聞きますよね。
Chris: “The police brought to light the suspect actions.”
Naomi: 最後の表現は何でしょうか。
Natsuko: 「お見受けする」
Naomi: 難しい表現ですね。もともとの動詞の形は
Natsuko: 「見受ける」
Naomi: これは、「見て、そういう印象を受ける」つまり「見て判断する」という意味です。簡単に言えば、「～のように見える」ということですね。ダイアログの文章をお願いします。
Natsuko: 「御社の事業内容から、ハワイは御社が特に力を入れている地域であるとお見受けしたためです。」
Chris: "According to your company's business operations, we saw that your company is concentrating especially on Hawaii."
Naomi: つまり、中田さんはILLの資料を見て、「あ、ILLっていうのはハワイに力を入れているんだな」って判断したっていうことなんですね。
Chris: お見受けする is a very polite expression to mean "to see and understand something”. In this dialog, Mr. Nakata read the ILL travel's business outline and understood that they are focusing on the area of Hawaii, and he stated this observation using the polite expression.
Naomi: 例えば、「社長は週末も忙しそうだ。」
Chris: “The company president seems busy on weekends too.”
Naomi: この文章を、直接社長に言いたい場合は、
Natsuko: 「社長は、週末もお忙しいとお見受けします。」
Chris: “I understand that you are very busy on weekends as well.” この単語はよく使いますか。
Natsuko: うーん、毎日使うか・・・と言われると、毎日は使わないですね。ただ、目上の人とかお客さんとかと話していて、「あなたは～みたいですね」”You seem…” っていうようなときには使うと思いますよ。
Naomi: このレッスンで紹介する表現は、「～したところ～でした」
これは、ビジネスのメールで、結果を報告するときなんかに使われます。では、さっそくなつこさんに、ダイアログの文章を読んでもらいましょう。
Natsuko: 「弊社システムエンジニアと相談したところ、まずは、地域限定で開発してから、地域を広げていく方が効率的であるとの見解でした。」
Chris: "We spoke to the systems engineer at our company, and starting off with a limited area and then expanding to different regions would be efficient in our opinion."
Naomi: 「～したところ」という表現は、「～したら」とか「～した結果」という意味なんですね。「～したところ」の後に「結果」が来ます。
ちょっとね、このダイアログの文章では説明しにくいので、もっと簡単な文章で説明しましょうか。
Natsuko: はい。例えば、「その会社について調べたところ、面白いことがわかった。」
Chris: “When I looked into this company I found them interesting.”
Naomi: 「その会社について調べたら、面白いことがわかった。」あるいは、「その会社について調べた結果、面白いことがわかりました。」・・・という意味ですね。
Chris: The formation of "the past tense of verb + ところ" is the formal way of saying "when someone did something." This expression is used to indicate that when someone did something, something else happened as the result. It's similar to ～たら, but it's more formal and often used in written language.
Naomi:次に、さっきのダイアログの文章にも出てきた、「～との」という表現を確認しましょう。「～との」というのは、「～という」と同じような意味です。
もう一度、「との」の部分を読んでもらえますか。
Natsuko: 「まずは、地域限定で開発してから、地域を広げていく方が効率的であるとの見解でした。」
Naomi: ブレイクダウンしてみましょうか。
Natsuko: はい。「まずは、地域限定で開発してから」
Chris: “starting off with a limited area and then”
Natuko: 「地域を広げていく方が効率的である」
Chris: “expanding to different regions would be efficient”
Natuko: 「との見解でした」
Naomi: まず、「との」は「という」という意味ですね。「見解」は「意見」あるいは「考え方」という意味です。ですから、「との見解」は「という意見」と同じ意味です。
Chris: “is our opinion”, or “in our opinion.”
Natsuko: もちろん、「～という考え」と言ってもいいのですが、「との考え」とか「との意見」あるいは、「との見解」の方が、フォーマルに聞こえますし、あとなんかちょっと、頭よさそうに聞こえますね～。（笑）
Naomi:そう、プロフェッショナルに聞こえますよね。との「考え」とか「見解」という言葉の代わりに、「こと」が入ることもあるんですよね。
Natsuko: あ、そうですね。「～とのことです」とか「～とのことでした」とかね。
Naomi: 確認した結果を報告するときに、「～したところ、～とのことでした」という形で使われることがあります。では、例文で確認しておきましょう。
Natsuko: はい。「お店に確認したところ、明日は満席とのことでした。」
Chris:”When I checked with the restaurant, all the tables were booked up for tomorrow.”
Naomi: この他に、「つきましては～」という表現もレッスンノートで紹介してありますので、
読んでおいてください。
Natsuko: あ、「つきましては」、これも便利な表現ですよね～。
Naomi: うーん、そうですね。
Chris: 「つきましては」はレッスンノートに説明があるとのことですので、是非、読んでください。
Natsuko: お、素晴らしい例文で。
Naomi: きれいにまとめましたね。
Chris: すみません。
