| 妻:パパ、まずは、キーンと冷えたビールでもどうぞ。 |
| 夫:どうしたんだよ？いやにサービスがいいなぁ。 |
| 妻:あら、人聞きの悪いことは言わないで！いつも、サービスいいでしょ。 |
| 夫:え～そうかぁ？？まっ、そういうことにしておくよ。 |
| : ゴクゴクゴク。あぁ～、風呂上りは冷えたビールに限る！！ |
| 妻:さっ、枝豆もどうぞ～。 |

| 夫:おっ！サンキュウ～。やっぱり、ビールのつまみは、枝豆に限るよな～。 |
| : Oh, thank you. There’s no better snack to go with beer than edamame! |

| 妻:えっ！ 何でわかったの？！ |
| : Huh, how did you know?! |

| Naomi: キーンと冷えたビール。。。おいしそうですね。 |
| Natsuko: お風呂上りはまたいいですよね。 |
| Naomi: お二人はどうですか？ビールは召し上がりますか？ |
| Natsuko:大好きです。 |
| Anthony: いや、好きですけど、家ではちょっとビールは禁止なんですね。ちょっと、腹が出てしまうので。 |
| Natsuko:そんなことないじゃないですか。スリムですよね。 |
| Naomi: この「キーンと冷えた」というフレーズですが、「冷えたビール」というよりも。「キーンと冷えたビール」のほうが冷たくて、おいしそうな感じがしますよね。 |
| Natsuko: キーンというのはOnomatopoeiaで、これにはたくさんの意味がありますが、「キーンと冷えた」とか「キンキンに冷えた」 なんていうと、「すごく冷たくなっている」なんていう意味ですね。 |
| Anthony: So キーンと冷えた or キンキンに冷えた measn something is extremely cold. |
| Natsuko: 大体、飲み物に使うことがおおいようですね。 |
| Naomi:では、単語に入っていきましょう。 |

| Natsuko: これは この単語だけで使われることは、まずありません。かならず、フレーズで使われます。 「人聞きが悪い」、「人聞きの悪い」 |

| Naomi: これフレーズ以外で使われることは事はほぼないですよね。例文をお願いします。 |
| Natsuko: ちょっとぉ！人聞きの悪いことを言わないでよ。 |
| Anthony: Hey, don't go around smearing my good name. あと、「人聞きが良い」とか「人聞きがすばらしい」とかは言わないですよね。 |
| Natsuko: 言わないですね。悪いほうだけですね。人聞きが悪い 人聞きの悪いだけです。 |
| Naomi: 今日は動物を使った面白い表現も出てきていますので、それも確認していきましょう。まず、「ねこ」を使った文がありました。 |
| Natuko:だんなさんがこんな風にいっていました。「なんだ、その猫なで声！！ 」 |
| Anthony: What an insinuating voice! |
| Natsuko: 猫なで声というのは、猫をなでるときに出す声という意味ですね。 |
| Naomi: あーニャンチャン。おなかすいたの？なんか食べる？ みたいな感じ。その人の本当の声よりも、ずいぶんやさしい声ですよね。猫なで声というのは不自然に優しい声のとこでしょうかね。誰かに何かを頼みたいときによく、猫なで声を出しますよね。 |
| Anthony: 猫なで声 literally means cat stroking voice. 猫なで声 describes unnatually gentle voice just like the voice people use when they stroke a cat. |

| Natsuko:わーこわい。 |
| Anthony: The president is talking to me in insinuating voice. I wonder what she wants from me. |
| Naomi: それから、もうひとつ狸 racoon dogを使った表現もありました。 |
| Natsuko: ちょっと、狸寝入りしないでよ！ |
| Anthony: Hey, don’t you pretend to fall asleep now! |
| Naomi: 狸寝入り というのは寝たふりをすること 「feigning sleep」ですが、狸はびっくりすると、気を失っちゃうらしいんです。で、日本では狸は人をだます動物だという風に思われていたので、この気を失っているのも、「本当は人をだますために寝たふりをしている」と思われて、この言葉が始まったそうです。 |
| Anthony: 狸寝入り means feigning sleep. It is from the fact that raccoon dogs pass out when they are surprised.Since it is believed that raccoon dogs trick people, people assumed that raccoon dogs pretend to fall asleep to trick them. |
| Natsuko:ずいぶん疑われていますね、狸。 |
| Naomi:前回のレッスンにも、この狸、出てきてましたね。 |
| Natsuko:なにか人をだます力があると思われていたんで、たぶんこういう風に誤解されちゃったんでしょうね。 |

| Anthony: This lesson's grammar point is ～に限る, a phrase used when talking about two things to express that one thing is the best match for the other. This phrase strongly implies that there is no better match than the two things mentioned, or that when you mention one thing, the next thing automatically comes to mind as the best choice because they are closely associated. |
