Do you know how to talk about past experiences in Japanese? |
Welcome to Three Step Japanese Practice by JapanesePod101.com. In this lesson, you will practice how to talk about past experience. |
Let’s look at the main dialogue. |
はい、大すきです。わたしは 子どものとき いわてに いました。いわての すしは ほんとうに おいしいです。 |
Hai, daisuki desu. Watashi wa kodomo no toki Iwate ni imashita. Iwate no sushi wa hontou ni oishii desu. |
Yes, I love it. When I was a child, I lived in Iwate. The sushi there is really delicious. |
だから、小さいとき よく 食べました。 |
Dakara, chiisai toki yoku tabemashita. |
So, I ate it often when I was little. |
In this dialogue, there are two important sentences. |
First is |
わたしは 子どものとき いわてに いました。 |
Watashi wa kodomo no toki Iwate ni imashita. |
のとき (no toki) |
Means "when." |
Then, |
だから、小さいとき よく 食べました。 |
Dakara, chiisai toki yoku tabemashita. |
とき (toki) |
Also means "when." |
The difference is that のとき goes after nouns like 子ども (kodomo) |
And とき goes after adjectives like 小さい (chiisai) |
Let’s practice with this grammar more in this lesson. |
