| Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to use a sentence pattern for Talking About Belongings. |
| PATTERN |
| Eric: For example, |
| Eric: "I have time." |
| Risa: 時間があります。 (Jikan ga arimasu.) |
| Risa: [slow] 時間があります。 (Jikan ga arimasu.) |
| Eric: The pattern for Talking About Belongings has 3 elements. First, time. |
| Risa: 時間 (Jikan). |
| Eric: Second, a subject marking particle that is used when introducing a subject in a sentence for the first time. |
| Risa: が (ga). |
| Eric: Third, a verb for an inanimate object, in this case, "to have" . |
| Risa: あります (arimasu). |
| Eric: Altogether, we have.. "I have time." |
| Risa: 時間があります。 (Jikan ga arimasu.) [slow] 時間があります。 (Jikan ga arimasu.) [normal] 時間があります。 (Jikan ga arimasu.) |
| Eric: To say “I have [something].” (literally, something you have) in Japanese. The subject, in this case “time” |
| Risa: 時間 (jikan) |
| Eric: comes first; [something] is followed by the subject marking particle |
| Risa: が (ga) |
| Eric: then the verb |
| Risa: あります (arimasu) |
| Risa: 時間があります。 (Jikan ga arimasu.) |
| Eric: So remember that to say you have something, first state the [something] you have, then the subject marking particle |
| Risa: が (ga) |
| Eric: and the verb |
| Risa: あります (arimasu) |
| Eric: at the end. |
| Eric: Here is another example meaning, "I have an appointment." First, appointment. |
| Risa: 約束 (Yakusoku) |
| Eric: Second, a subject marking particle, (used when introducing subject in a sentence for the first time). |
| Risa: が (ga) |
| Eric: Third, a verb for an inanimate object, in this case, "to have" . |
| Risa: あります (arimasu) |
| Eric: Altogether we have.. |
| Risa: 約束があります。 (Yakusoku ga arimasu.) [slow] 約束があります。 (Yakusoku ga arimasu.) [normal] 約束があります。 (Yakusoku ga arimasu.) |
| Eric: "I have an appointment." |

| Eric: How do you say - "I have a favor to ask"? To give you a hint, "favor" is.. |
| Risa: お願い (o-negai). [slow] お願い (o-negai). [normal] お願い (o-negai). |
| Eric: "I have a favor to ask." |

| Risa: お願いがあります。 (O-negai ga arimasu.) [slow] お願いがあります。 (O-negai ga arimasu.) [normal] お願いがあります。 (O-negai ga arimasu.) |
