| Sachiko: Which can be translated roughly as must not or you cannot. |
| Natsuko: そうですね。 So it’s an expression which is used to indicate that a certain action is not acceptable or permitted. |

| Natsuko: て form of verbs, you take the て form and add は、いけません。 |
| Sachiko: なるほど。 So for example, if you wanted to say you must not drink, what would you say? |

| Sachiko: Now the term てはいけません is a very polite form but there is also a casual form you can use with your friends which is |

| Natsuko: 食べてはいけない。 |
| Sachiko: Big difference right there. So you always want to be conscious of the relationship between the two people in the conversation. 夏子さん。石原さんの告白の中で、すごく面白い表現がありますね。 |
| Natsuko: なんでしょう。 |
| Sachiko: 馬鹿みたいに何も言わなくて Like a fool I said nothing. So 前半の馬鹿みたいに、というのはどういう時に使うんでしょう？ |
| Natsuko: 馬鹿みたい is literally translated as like a fool. |
| Sachiko: Yes. |
| Sachiko: So the term みたい means like a |
| Natsuko: Yes and it’s really useful. It’s used for almost anything. |
| Sachiko: What else can you say using this? |
| Natsuko: 昼みたいに明るい |
| Sachiko: It’s as bright as the afternoon. When you think it’s like something, you can use this expression with using any noun that resembles. So if I was eating like a horse, I would say 馬みたいに食べてる. Or sleeping like a cow, 牛みたいに寝ている So it could be anything, not just animals. |
| Natsuko: Great. |
| Sachiko: So remember the noun comes first if you wanted to say like a horse, 馬 comes first followed by みたい. 馬みたい. So that’s it for today’s lesson. This may seem like the end of the saga of Ishihara san and Sasaki san but there is one more. So stay tuned. |
