**Opening** |
Jessi:(JLPTN4 L10 Title ) Hi everyone, I'm Jessi and I'm here in the studio joined by... |
Naomi:こんにちは、みなさん。直美です。Hi everyone, Naomi here. |
前回は 聴解のもんだい1を勉強しましたね。 |
Jessi:In the last lesson, we covered Question 1 of the Listening comprehension section. |
Naomi:このレッスンでは、問題2を紹介します。 |
Jessi:And in this Lesson, we'll cover Question 2 of the Listening comprehension section. |
Naomi:もんだい2は2010年から新しくできました |
Jessi:Question 2 is similar to Question1, but this a actually a new question format for the JLPT. |
Naomi:そうですね。もんだい1と2は似ています。でも違うところは、もんだい2はchoiceを読む時間があります。 |
Jessi: もんだい2 is different from もんだい1 in that you are given time to read the choices before you listen to the question. Therefore, you are expected to search for more detailed information than in もんだい1. |
Jessi: We'll do some actual practice questions in the audio, but first, let's look at Mondai 2 in more detail. |
*Instructions* |
Jessi: Naomi-sensei, can you please read us the instructions? |
Naomi: Sure. 問題2ではまず質問を聞いてください。その後、問題用紙をみてください。読む時間があります。 |
Jessi: Listen to the question first. You are then given time to read the answer choices. |
Naomi: それから、話を聞いて、問題用紙の1から4の中から、正しい答えを一つ選んでください。 |
Jessi: Then listen to the short conversation or paragraph to find the answer. Choose the best answer from 1 to 4. So here, you are given time to read the answer choices before the audio portion begins. |
Naomi: Right. Make sure you read the question carefully so that you know what to look for. |
Jessi: Okay, so now let's try some Practice Questions for もんだい2. Now is the time to get out the Lesson Notes so you can follow along. The answer choices are printed in there, and you'll need to see those to do the questions. Okay, let's get started! |
①---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------① |
Jessi: Okay, did you get the answer? First of all, Naomi-sensei, what was the question asking? |
Naomi: 明日の会議はどこで、何時からですか。 Where and when is the meeting tomorrow? |
Jessi: And the answer was...? |
Naomi: Choice 3. 10時半から大会議室でします。"The meeting is at 1030 in the big conference room." |
Jessi: What were the key sentences in the audio that told us the answer? |
Naomi: The first one was... 午後2時からの予定でしたが朝10時半からになりました。 |
Jessi: "The meeting was planned for 2 in the afternoon, but it has been changed to 1030 in the morning." |
Naomi: 予定 means plan or schedule, and でした means "was". So 2時からの予定でした means "was planned for 2". |
Jessi: Right, which tells us that it is no longer taking place then. Then we heard 10時半からになりました。 |
Naomi: Right. Remember that になる means "to become", so literally - It has become 1030 in the morning. |
Jessi: Right, in other words, it has been changed to 1030 in the morning. |
Naomi: The other key sentence was 場所は小会議室ではなく、大会議室です。 |
Jessi: "The place is NOT the small conference room, but the large conference room." |
Naomi: ではなく comes from ではない, and so it means "not". So 小会議室ではなく means "NOT the small conference room". |
Jessi: All right, onto the next question. |
②---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------② |
②---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------② |
Jessi: Okay, did you get the answer? First of all, Naomi-sensei, what was the question asking? |
Naomi: 娘さんはどうしてむかえにきてほしいですか。 Why does the daughter want the mother to come pick her up? |
Jessi: And the answer was...? |
Naomi: Choice 3. たくさん買い物したから。 Because she bought a lot of things. |
Jessi: Let's look at the two most important lines of the dialogue. First, when the daughter says she wants to be picked up, the Mom asks |
Naomi: ええ?かさ、持ってないの? |
Jessi: "Huh? You don't have an umbrella?" The daughter replies... |
Naomi: あるけど、デパートでたくさん買い物しちゃったの。 |
Jessi: "I do, but I bought a lot of stuff at the department store, you see." Remember that this けど means but... あるけど。 I do have one, but... So we know that the answer choice かさがないから (because she doesn't have an umbrella) is not correct. |
Naomi: The other choices were 外は寒いから, because it's cold outside, and 頭が痛いから, because her head hurts, but it was the mother who said both of these things. |
Jessi: Right. If you listen closely, you'll notice the daughter didn't mention either of these things. |
Naomi: Okay, how did you do on those two questions? |
Jessi: If doing those for practice really helped you out, then don't miss out on the bonus track. There are two more full-length practice questions in there just like the ones we did. |
Naomi: Yes, so please check it out! |
Jessi: And that's all the time we have for this lesson! Thanks for listening everyone, and until next time. |
Naomi:じゃまた。 |
Bonus Track用 |
intro(??) |
Jessi: Welcome to the Bonus Track for the JLPT N4 Listening section. |
In this bonus track we'll do two more practice questions just like we did in the lesson. Let's start! |
③---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------③ |
③---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------③ |
Jessi: Okay, did you get the answer? First of all, Naomi-sensei, what was the question asking? |
Naomi: どうして男の学生は車で学校に来ましたか。 Why did the boy come to school by car? |
Jessi: And the answer was...? |
Naomi: Choice 2. 足をけがしているから。Because he has a leg injury. |
Jessi: Now, the hint for this one was kind of subtle. It was hidden in the middle of the conversation. |
Naomi: That's right. If you missed it, it might be hard to get the answer for this question. |
Jessi: So, what did the boy say that was a major clue? |
Naomi: He said あー。足のけが、早くよくならないかなぁ・・・。 |
Jessi: "Man, I hope my leg gets better soon..." |
Naomi: The word for injury is けが, and よくなる means to get better. よくならないかなぁ is a way of asking yourself a question.. literally, won't it get better soon? |
Jessi: Right. "Won't it get better soon?" or "I hope it gets better soon!" So thanks to this line, we know that the reason he came to school by car was because he has a leg injury. |
Naomi: Okay, and now on to the last practice question. |
④---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------④ |
④---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------④ |
Jessi: Okay, did you get the answer? First of all, Naomi-sensei, what was the question asking? |
Naomi: してもいいことはなんですか。 What is it OKAY to do? |
Jessi: And the answer was...? |
Naomi: Choice 4.小さい声で話す. Speaking in a quiet voice. |
Jessi: Okay, now in this question, we saw a lot of grammar that talks about prohibition and permission. Let's review the ones we heard. |
Naomi: The first thing the teacher said was まず、ぼうしはぬいでください。 |
Jessi: Please take off your hats. So we know it is not okay to wear a hat, so we can eliminate that answer choice. |
Naomi: Next, they said 写真はとってもいいですが、フラッシュを使ってはいけません。 |
Jessi: 写真をとってもいい It is okay to take pictures. フラッシュを使ってはいけません。 It is not okay to use a flash. So we can eliminate that answer choice. |
Naomi: Then, they said ガムもあめもダメです。 |
Jessi: Gum and candy are NOT okay. And the key sentence that gave us the answer? |
Naomi: 小さい声で話すのは大丈夫ですが、大きい声では話さないでくださいね。 |
Jessi: 小さい声で話すのは大丈夫です It is okay to speak in a quiet voice. 大きい声では話さないでください。Please do not talk in a loud voice. So now, we know what it is okay to do. |
Naomi: Make sure that you review these grammar points - verb in the te form plus もいい, meaning okay to do, and verb in the te form plus はいけません, meaning must not do. |
