Hi Andy (LaWanda),

Thanks for sending the question!

Seito / 生徒 means pupil, student, schoolchild.

Gakusei / 学生 also means student, but this one is used especially to describe a collage age student.

Here's a usage example:

Elementary school teacher: This is a student in my class. = 私のクラスの生徒です。

College professor: This is a student in my class. = 私のクラスの学生です。

When the word "gakusei" is used alone, it implies a college age student. However, when it's used with other kanji, it could mean the following:

小学生 (shōgakusei) = elementary school student

中学生 (chūgakusei) = middle school student

大学生 (daigakusei) = college student

I hope this helps. Thank you for studying with JapanesePod101.com!

Sincerely,

Miki H

Konnichiwa Andy desu!

I'm lost. What is the difference between seito and gakkusei? Is seito the word for specifically for student and gakkusei school student?

Arigatou gozaimasu.

It's amazing. And as I watch so many anime's I already knew the word student and teacher. I really love Japanese.
