That's a good question.

Here is how to ask your noodle at Ramen shop:

very soft = (totemo) yawarakaku

soft = yawarakame

medium softness = futsū

firm = katame

very firm = (totemo) kataku

But at some Ramen shop like Hakata Ramen, they will say "bari kata" for very firm.

("Bari" means "very" in Hakata dialect.)

Please try it if you have another chance to order Ramen in Japan!

I have a question regarding vocabulary when ordering Ramen. I've tried ordering Ramen in Japan before, and one issue I had was the waiter asked me how I'd like my noodles. I didn't know how to reply. Could I please be told how to say the different ways one can have their noodles, e.g. very soft, soft, medium softness, firm, and very firm?

Thanks for the comment. Almost all kind of ramen broth use meat or bones, unfortunately. But vegetarian food has gained some popularity in Japan in recent years, so you might be able to find vegetarian ramen, if you ask. Here's how to ask at a restaurant if their ramen use meat or bones.

Do you use meat or bones for the ramen soup at this shop?

この店のラーメンのスープには肉や動物の骨が使われていますか？

Kono mise no rāmen no sūpu ni wa niku ya dōbutsu no hone ga tsukawarete imasu ka?

I would like to add some of useful words of this lesson, like chumori and namimori to word bank. However I can't find a way to do it since they don't appear on lessons vocabulary ? The same problem happened to me in last lesson. Is there any way of doing it?
