| Peter: Okay, so we are going to get right in and we are going to break these words down because this is some important stuff we are covering today, right Sakura? |

| Peter: Okay, without further adieu, here we go. First word please Sakura. |
| Sakura: ご家族 (go-kazoku) |
| Peter: Very nice. Okay, what does this mean? |
| Sakura: It’s family. |
| Peter: Okay, now you said, can you say it one more time, please? |
| Sakura: ご家族 (go-kazoku) |
| Peter: Okay, what is the word in there? |
| Sakura: It is ご (go) and 家族 (kazoku) |
| Peter: Okay. |
| Sakura: And 家族 (kazoku) is family. |
| Peter: Okay, very nice. Okay, so can you break down this word for us? |

| Peter: And one time fast. |

| Sakura: It makes the word polite. |
| Peter: Okay, very nice. So Sakura, would I use this talking about my family to make it polite? |
| Sakura: No. When you want to talk about the other person’s family, you put ご (go). |
| Peter: Yes, only when you are talking about other people’s family, you use this. |
| Sakura: Yes. |
| Peter: When you are talking about your own family, don’t use it. Okay, excellent. Next word. |
| Sakura: 何人 (nan-nin) |
| Peter: Okay, and what is this? |
| Sakura: How many people. |
| Peter: Very nice. Now Sakura, there are two words in there, right? |
| Sakura: Yes, 何人 (nan-nin) |
| Peter: Okay. And what does this mean, Sakura? |
| Sakura: How many people. |
| Peter: Yes, again we have this word 何 (nan) and this can mean either what or how depending on the case. Don’t worry. We will get used to it. Not a problem. Okay, so that’s the first word. Then the second word is |
| Sakura: 人 (nin) |
| Peter: And this is the counter for people. In Japanese, they have counters for many things. For example, round things, long thin things. They have many different kinds of counters and this could be a difficult point in Japanese but don’t worry about that. Sakura is here and she is going to make it really easy for you and when we are done, it’s going to be a piece of cake. |

| Peter: Yeah, oh I see, so we have the number six. |

| Peter: So how will we say 10 people? |
| Sakura: 10人 (jū-nin) |
| Peter: Okay. Just 10 plus the counter. |
| Sakura: Yes. |
| Peter: All right. How about 9 people? |
| Sakura: 9人 (kyū-nin) |
| Peter: Oh, this is great. |

| Peter: Eight people. |
| Sakura: 8人 (hachi-nin) |

| Peter: Okay. Now we are going to move on to some more vocabulary. Now this vocabulary is a little tricky, right Sakura? |

| Peter: The reason it’s tricky is because in Japanese, it’s a very respectful language so when you speak about families, you use some words for your own family and some for others. |
| Sakura: Yes. |
| Peter: Okay. What we are going to give you today is the words that you use when speaking about your family. Right, Sakura? |
