Kanojo tachi vs kanojo ra

Postby koox » September 4th, 2009 9:09 am

Mina San,

In the Beginner's lessons, you talk about the pronouns and mention that the plural of kanojo is: Kanojo ra but in my text book they use kanojo tachi.
I would like to know if I can use both, and if there is any difference.

Thank you in advance,

Sayonara

I was told that Kanojora was the correct plural form,
but kanojo-tachi is used sometimes also. (Likwise with kore-tachi vs. korera).
Plurals like boku-tachi (as opposed to bokura) are more common.

Forget where I read this though...

From my experience, the commonly used forms are karera for guys and kanojo-tachi for girls. That doesn't make kare-tachi and kanojo-ra wrong, I've just never hear them use. I'll ask one of our native senseis about it!

ra is just less polite, insofar as I'm aware. I confess to not having heard kanojora that often, but I also haven't really heard kanojotachi. Really, I just don't hear kanojo very much, at least not in the sort of contexts that would warrant plurals. Not big on the pronouns, those Japanese.
