Voice Recorder in the Learning Center

Postby Liz21 » May 5th, 2009 4:08 am

Hey!
Sorry, but I've been away for MONTHS!! I used to use the voice recorder a lot and it helped me so much. But now I can't get it to work. Can someone please help me? It's quite different than it used to be.
Thanks so much.

Hi Liz21さん,

I responded to your question about it in the comments sections of this lesson. Here's what I said:

"As for the Voice Recorder, do you have Java installed? Can you see the three buttons for record, stop, and play? I wasn’t familiar with the old one so let me know if you still need help and I’ll try asking someone."

Hi, Jessi!
Yes, I saw your comment, but I didn't want to hog the Comments section with my little problem.

Yes, I have Java installed on my Firefox Browser. I know how the applet loads, too. You have to wait and then it asks if you "Trust this Certificate" and you click yes. Then you have to wait until it loads. I have waited. I see the "record button", the "stop button" and the "play button", but they aren't clickable, as far as I can tell.

I am using the latest version of Firefox, with these Java "Add-ons":
Java Embedding Plugin
Java Embedding Plugin 0.9.6.4
Java Plug-in
Java Plug-in (CFM)

Maybe I have too many Java things? Maybe I should disable one or two of these? I have no idea about that at all.

Jessi, thanks so very much for your offer of help! I'm really hoping that I can get some kind of answers for this! Thanks very much!

Liz

Thanks for the extra information! So you can see the buttons but you can't click on them, correct? I'll ask our tech team to see if they can figure out what the problem might be and then get back to you!

No Sound on Voice Recorder

Postby jankapoor » June 1st, 2009 8:51 pm

I am also having a problem with the voice recorder. I never get any sound after saying something and trying to play it back. The 3 buttons are there and I can click on them, but there is no sound.

Right . . . I can't open the Voice Recorder in Firefox. I think there's some kind of conflict. However, I can open the Voice Recorder in Safari. Try that!

It's inconvenient to do that, though, because Firefox is my preferred browser. . . it can use the Rikaichan application that so many of us depend upon to read Japanese!

Someone advised me to re-install Firefox, so I might try that at some point.

The Voice Recorder is very important to me and it's one of the coolest features of the Premium Learning Center. It helps me check my pronunciation of Japanese words.

Good luck! Try Safari!

Firefox under Windows Vista - Voice recorder does not work

Postby Axlen » June 14th, 2009 10:51 pm

When I run the voice recorder it starts up and displays the three buttons momentarily which are then replaced with an error message. This might be a Vista security issue or perhaps related to running Java under Vista 64 bit.

I found the reason for the problem on my system.

The error is very non-descriptive, but the fix is simple. I did not have a microphone plugged into the microphone jack on my computer. Once I plugged in a microphone the voice recorder opened without error.

Ask the voice recorder developers to try and catch the error and display a message that lists some possible causes like say the microphone is not found or attached, etc.

Regards,
Axlen
