Utawarerumono うたわれるもの

Hi~
I started to watch this animation a while ago and it's brilliant!
It is being translated as "The One Being Sung" in some countries, but I wonder why?

I know 'uta' means songs, 'mono' means something, but wat is the meaning of 'wareru'? can anyone explanin that for me? I am SO interested to know the meaning.

i believe うたわれる　is just the passive form of the verb うたう (to sing). so うたわれるもの　 means "the one being sung." hope this helps....

Actually, because there's no official kanji for the title, it could either be:

歌われる = the passive of "to sing"
or
謳われる = "to be admired"

No one that I know of is really sure which it is.

Japanese titles are frequently double-entendres and word play, and usually as you get into the material you'll come to understand why a certain title was chosen. If you ask me, it's meant to be ambiguous.
