If you were in an ER, bleeding out, they will type and cross-match you to a donor supply anyway, because there are more proteins available to match, and a perfect match is much better than just matching AB and RH factor, although if it's needed, these are all that is critical for blood. For organ transplants, they must match more proteins to prevent rejection.
