In the case of する, I would like to be clear that this includes the passive act of wearing (the tie) and not just the action of putting something on. Also, this refers to things we would attach to our bodies, such as a neck tie or a sword?

I think you can understand in that way. But there're not many things you can actually use する with.
Sword is not the case, for instance. Something you put onto yourself, and mostly "around" your body (fitting your body).
Ties, watches, aprons, neckless, masks,...
