Quick kanji question

Postby momopeaches » July 18th, 2009 1:52 am

Hello everyone!

I'm using Surusu.com for my SRS nonsense. I'm planning on taking the JLPT4 in December, so I'm getting all my new flashcards set up. I'm using a pack from.. I don't remember. Anywho, I'm also cross-referencing the words and the kanji with Perapera-kun's dictionary addon for Firefox AND with JLPTstudy.com. I've had to modify a few cards that were off, but for the most part they're coming along. I have a question about one kanji, though... 後 Perapera-kun lists it as "behind, rear, after, later, past, previous", but JLPTstudy.com has it just as "afterwards, since then, in the future." Which one should I use?! I'm not quite to the point of inputting sentences, and I know that kanji are context specific for meaning and reading, but they usually over one topic, not two opposite topics. Any help would be great. :)

Quick answer.
I would say "After, behind"
The main words used in JLPT4 would be 後(あと)、後(うしろ)、and 午後 (ごご)

JLPTstudy.com's definition seems only to be for のち

because after has to refer back to what was before, behind may not be quite as opposite as it may seem.
