the not-so-simple explanation to this is, in order to keep things interesting, we will always be tweaking our format. japanesepod101 is always in a state of flux. some things will come, somethings will go. i wouldn't be surprised if the intermediate level came back some time in the future. as i see things now, every 6 months there will be little changes. we're always growing and trying to keep everyone at many levels happy, so it's a bit of a balancing act. i can't say specifically that "a new intermediate level will begin in july" but a few new things will start around that time and a few old things may disappear.

how long could the newbie lessons last? i mean,
you can only be a newbie for so long...
will it just overlap and even replace the old beginner lessons?

I think the old beginner lessons are better than the new newbie series....so I really don't see the need to replace.

Instead of having more newbie lessons, why not create a new grammar series? This series will only talk about grammar and talk in detail. Every week, one major Japanese grammar topic will be covered in detail. How about that?
