what does 101 in J-pod101 means ?

Hi there, I keep hearing it everyday several times but what does 101 stands for ?
Can anybody tell me please !

In many US universities, the most basic, entry level classes are often named (Subject) 101. They're the starting point for learning about a subject.

I am originally from Iraq but I am currently in Belgium for my master study and I finished it. Although I heard before with the American system of naming like 101, 202 or 303 for the courses but it did not come up to my mind till you mention it. :oops:
I guess Japanesepod101 is directed towards the Americans but I still like it. It is fun and very easy to follow. Thanks Japanesepod101 team for this :D
