名前 is more to do with people.
I think title might be a better word
タイトル (n) title.
題名 [だいめい] (n) title.
(Kiki's Delivery Service is 魔女の宅急便 [まじょ の たっきゅうびん] btw)
I like Ghibli films. Grave of the Fireflies 火垂るの墓 is probably still my favorite. Then Whisper of the Heart 耳をすませば
For live action I like Kurosawa. Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Red Beard, Ikiru, Ran,
Modern films I liked
Nobody knows だれもしらない, Azumi (1 not 2), Battle Royal (1 not 2),
Takashi Miike is worth a look but isn't to everyones taste and can be extreme (the only film where I've had to fast forward through a scene was Audition)
Ju-on and Dark Water are two of the best scary films I've seen. (you can never feel safe in bed again after seeing Ju-on!)
Overall 一番好きな映画が火垂るの墓ですよ。because it's a serious topic in an animated film. And forget about Bambi's mother this film gets the biggest emotional response out of most people. Quite an achievement for a "cartoon".
Maybe you were thinking of more than just Japanese films. 垂るの墓 would still be in there. along with Baraka, Citzen Kane, My Life as a Dog, Amelie, Delicatessan, Seven Samurai.
All I seem to watch these days are Japanese films. Anime, TV, I'm not fussy if it's in Japanese!
